Spring has been good to Columbus. After a harsh winter Columbus needed to get out and move. And move we did. March, April and the beginning of May brought race season to Columbus culminating in the Capital City Half & Quarter Marathons and Commit to Be Fit 5K this past Saturday.
Over the past few months you have trained through less than optimal conditions. You’ve shown up at local races like the Scioto Miles Spring Training Series, The Clintonville 5K, The Pi Day 5K, or the Fisher 5K.
Along the way you’ve inspired your families, your neighbors, and your co-workers to follow in your footsteps. Some made the decision to train for their first 5K. Others chose a half marathon or even a full marathon. We’ve all changed our lives and are spearheading a movement to provide greater opportunities for Columbus to live healthy, active lives.
This past Saturday at Cap City 14,500 participants took to the streets. Equally impressive numbers were out volunteering and cheering every step of the way. That is an incredible accomplishment for our community.
So what’s next? How will you continue the movement, the momentum to improve our city’s way of life? We must all carry this onward. Help support local charities while inspiring another generation to get out and move at local races this summer. Help a friend train for their first 5K, half marathon or full marathon.
Whatever you do, wherever your feet take you, know that you are the inspiration. Know that you are the momentum pushing our city forward.
