HOKA POSTAL NATIONALS

  • Heats Starting at 5:30pm

From 1957 through the 1970‘s at the end of the cross country season Track & Field News and the United States Track & Field Federation jointly held a nationwide competition. At first teams would run 2 miles on the track and mail the results in (hence the name “National Postals”), but then in 1969 when the 3 miles was added, regional races were held, all of which are known as the “National Postal” races. Since cross country courses varied and since there was not going to be a single national meet, the times from the regional races were taken for ranking the competitors nationally. To make the races fair in comparing times, the races were run on the track, but in a cross country type race. Teams of 5 runners were entered as well as individual entries. High school runners ran a 2 mile cross country event in those years. The 2 mile races for the National Postals were done from 1957 through 1982; and the 3 mile races for the National Postals were done from 1969 through 1978 (as in 1979 and after, the Kinney and Footlocker National High School Cross Country Championships were instituted for the 3 mile races). The revival of the Postal 2-Mile is a revival of the spirit of high school distance running, the revival of finding a true national champion and most importantly the revival of a team together. We are proud to reintroduce the running world to the Hoka One One National High School 2-Mile Postal Competition. Learn more about the history here! (MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER HERE VS THE NATIONAL SITE. WE WILL BE SUBMITTING YOUR TIMES FOR YOU FOLLOWING THE MEET!)

Who can compete in the HOKA ONE ONE National 2-Mile Postal Competition?

Anyone that is age eligible to compete for his or her high school team is eligible to run a postal.  The team competition requires a minimum of 5 athletes, but individuals are eligible to participate, but will not be included in the team leaderboard.

How does a team get registered?

In order to register one must form a club by choosing a team name.  For example utilize your schools name or mascot and then adding XC Club is allowable or any creative way you want to name it.  However, you may not use the initials HS, High School, School, or Academy in the Club name.  This unsanctioned model is the same format utilized by New Balance National and Nike Cross Nationals.

Can I Register Multiple Teams?

Yes, we encourage multiple teams’ results including boys, girls, and all years in school.

What are the prizes?  There are numerous incentives.

1) Free shoes. Every coach that submits team results will receive a free pair of HOKA ONE ONE shoes. *Coaches are not required for participation. **Only officially recognized High School coaches receive a free pair of HOKA ONE ONE shoes.

2) Pride. Your team versus the country, your state or your local rivals. Post your best.

3) @runnerspace will be holding Instagram contests through out the summer so make sure to tag your summer training photos with #prepare2post

4) The top boys and girls teams will receive the Postal National Champion trophy, champions swag and a visit to practice from a HOKA ONE ONE elite athlete to be named soon.  Last year’s winners received a visit from Olympic Silver Medalist Leo Manzano.

How are scores tabulated?

Finish times of each team member are combined, and added to the national database. Lowest cumulative time wins!

How are heats determined?

Heats are determined based up estimated finish times entered during registration. We will host the top 5 boys and top 5 girls teams with the lowest estimated finish times in the OHIO POSTAL HEAT OF CHAMPIONS in the final two heats of the evening.
